Beard Care

The ability to grow facial hair is based on genetic makeup, and though there are some medical treatments for facial hair growth, most have too many side effects to use routinely. However, supporters of home remedies claim that there are some that can be used to grow facial hair. These claims have not been evaluated by the FDA however, so you should consult your doctor before beginning any type of home treatment.

What is Beard Oil?

TWhat is Beard Oil?

Beard oil is designed to deliver your beard with essential oils that will keep it healthy and strong. It also conditions beard hair and promotes healthy hair growth.

Why You Need Beard Oil

At the root of your beard, there exists the sebaceous gland that supplies hair follicles with natural oils. This gives your beard the moisture it needs to grow and look healthy.

These glands eventually run dry after rapid growth and need to be replaced, which is where beard oil comes in.

Benefits of Beard Oil

     Softer and smoother beard

     Minimizes beard itch

     Looks shiny but not greasy

     Repairs damaged beard hair.

Beard Oil Application

If you’ve ever applied hair gel then you’ll find the process similar, just this time it’s on your face. Pour a small amount on your palm, taking careful deliberation not to let the whole bottle overflow.

A few drops will do for a light beard, a quick steady stream into the palms will work for a large beard. Spread it evenly on both palms and between your fingers. Apply evenly throughout the beard and massage it into your face.

Finish up with a mustache twirl to end out the oil ritual. Comb or brush the beard depending on its length.

How to Trim a Beard

How to Trim a Beard

There dawns a day in any beard’s life that it must be trimmed. Certain skills, tools and circumstances must be accounted for before embarking on this new trimmed journey.

Get out the quill and papyrus, these are the necessary tools you’ll need to complete your trimming quest.

Trimming Items Required:

Boar’s Bristle

Peasant’s Electronic Razor (Optional)

Scissors (Non-Safety)

Brotherhood Comb

A Beard

The process of a beard trim can be broken down into a few key steps.

1. Determine Your Beard Type (Length)

For simplicity’s sake there are three lengths of beard: short, medium, and long. Then there is curly, straight and either thin or thick. The area you’ll be concerned with for a trim is mostly length.

Longer beards will rely more on using a brush and scissors to cut through that bushy forest of matted hair. Short and medium length beards can be trimmed with an electronic razor.

2. Brush the Beard Out

Begin by taking your boar’s bristle or comb and bring everything out. Most suspect areas for a trim will be located on the chin or below the jawline. It’s important that all stray hairs have been brushed off and everything is visible.

Even shorter beards can benefit from a good brushing. The next step will require the comb.

3. Cut the Beard

There are two ways to actually begin cutting your beard that will contribute to the overall trimming process. The first will require your Brotherhood Comb and scissors, these two tools can be used for all lengths of beards.

3A. Take the comb and put it in the midst of your facial hair. Let the intended amount you want to trim off stick through the teeth. This could be a full couple inches or only a quarter inch. Use the scissors to cut away at the hair sticking out. Methodically move from one area to the next.

3B. Again take the comb and get the hair ready. But this time use an electric razor for a more close and tight trim. The comb can then be turned around and its edge can be used to create the neckline and cheek line-up.

4. Beardscape & Clean-Up

After the main method of trimming has been done, it’s time to go over the beard again with a fine tooth comb. Look for any areas that are sticking out and get rid of them individually.

Now is a good time for a shower with our beard shampoo or a face rinse & oil combo will do the job as well.

Grey beard & Scissors

These are the fundamental steps towards a regular beard trim for lessened length. Individual styles will vary, but this should serve as the basic blueprint for an intelligent beard trim.
